T&R Bulletin 4-18: Propulsion Monitoring Instrumentation for Shipboard Energy Conservation (1984)

This bulletin reviews the state of art in machinery instrumentation and provides guidance to ship operators on what kinds are required and recommended to optimize propulsion plant performance. While it is not possible to provide price quotations or identify specific hardware in a document of this kind, economic information of a general sort will be furnished wherever possible to enable an approximate cost/benefit anal­ysis to be initiated. The contents of this bulletin are intended to be gener­ally applicable to all types of powered vessels; however, the preponderance of subject matter relates to steamships operating on residual fuel oil.
